Junior Cricket

Format Information

Junior Cricket (Mixed Competitions & Girls Competitions) within the Sutherland Shire Junior Cricket Association follow the principles and core Playing Conditions of the Australian Cricket Junior Formats. The formats are designed to ensure players learn the game and progress appropriately, through stages, as they move through age groups.

In Mixed Competitions:
Under 10’s (Stage 1)
Under 12’s (Stage 2)
Under 14’s and Under 16’s (Stage 3)

In Girls Competitions, competitions are skill based:
Stage 1 (ages 8-12) – completed Cricket Blast and ready to play the sport of cricket. Ability to bowl over 16m.
Stage 2 (ages 10-15) – leather ball on an 18m pitch

There are some specific Playing Conditions for each age group and grade within the SSJCA. It is advised that coaches, managers and parents familiarise themselves with the SSJCA Playing Regulations so everyone is aware of how the game is played, so everyone can enjoy.

Equipment

Gymea Bay Cricket Club provides every junior team with a team kit which contains equipment that can be shared between players – helmets, bats, pads, gloves, protectors, wicket-keeping pads and wicket-keeping gloves.

It is recommended that each player has their own helmet and protector for hygiene purposes.

Age Groups

Age groups for Junior Cricket participants are calculated as of 31 August. Exemptions for participants to play outside of their prescribed age group are considered on a case-by-case basis.

Note: not applicable for Girls Cricket competitions as these competitions are skill based.
